✨ Short Summary / Outline

Continuing Jesus’ teaching on hypocrisy, Pastor Phil explores how giving, praying, and fasting reveal the true motives of the heart. The focus of this study is not outward behavior but the inward desire to seek the pleasure of our Father in heaven, not the applause of people.

1. Give Seeking the Father’s Pleasure (Matthew 6:1, 4)

The notes emphasize that both verses “refer to our heavenly Father,” reminding us that giving is an act of worship done for Him alone. Jesus warns against giving for attention, urging believers to give quietly and sincerely. God sees what is done in secret—and He Himself is our greatest reward.

2. Pray with Sincerity, Secrecy, and Specificity (Matthew 6:5–8)

- Pray sincerely: Hypocrites pray to be seen; true disciples pray to be heard by their Father.

- Pray secretly: Public prayer is good, but it cannot replace private prayer. Who we are when only God sees reveals who we truly are.

- Pray specifically: Jesus condemns empty, repetitive phrases. God is not moved by many words but by honest communion. He already knows our needs and invites us to speak to Him as children to a loving Father.

Application:

Jesus calls His followers to authentic faith—giving without show, praying without performance, and fasting without attention. The heart of the matter is always the heart. God sees, God knows, and God rewards those who seek Him in secret.
