Myrrh – The Gift For a Savior | Sermon

Dec 21, 2025    Phil Anderson

Myrrh was a gift associated with suffering, sacrifice, and burial—pointing to Jesus’ mission as Savior. In this final Christmas message, Rev. Phil explores how myrrh reveals the depth of Christ’s love and the purpose behind His coming.

1. He Possessed a Purpose (Luke 19:10)

- Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.

- Even at His birth, His mission was clear: salvation through sacrifice.

2. He Paid Our Price (Romans 5:8)

- God demonstrated His love through Christ’s death.

- From His broken body came the fragrance of redemption.

3. He Participated in Our Pain (Isaiah 53:3–6)

- Jesus experienced betrayal, sorrow, exhaustion, anger, abandonment, and temptation.

- He didn’t stumble into suffering—He came for it.

4. He Provided Our Peace (Romans 8:18)

- Jesus offers peace for today and hope for eternity.

- Earthly peace sustains us now; eternal peace awaits us in glory.

Application: Myrrh reminds us that Jesus is not only King and Priest—He is the Savior who stepped into our suffering, carried our sin, and secured our peace.
